How To Make Cat In The Hat Pizza

Here in Autismland, we like to incorporate food into our hands on activities. After a week of celebrating Read Across America, a fitting end is Cat In The Hat pizza. Shaped pizza always taste better anyway.

Most kids love pizza. Homemade pizza has the added benefit of becoming a cherished family tradition. Pokeball pizza, Mickey Mouse pizza, and now Cat In The Hat pizza have all made appearances here in Autismland.

Ingredients For Making Cat In The Hat Pizza

  • Pizza dough, homemade or store-bought refrigerated (to make it gluten free and hat shaped, you have to make your own)
  • Pizza sauce, homemade or store-bought
  • Mozzarella cheese, about 3 cups
  • Pepperoni

Instructions For Making Cat In The Hat Pizza

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Prepare a large baking sheet with parchment paper or sprinkle cornstarch on your baking sheet.
  2. Divide the pizza dough, using about ¼ of the dough to roll flat for the brim (circle) of the hat. Roll out the remaining pizza dough on a lightly floured surface or pastry mat into a rectangle. 
  3. Place shaped dough on parchment-lined baking sheet with the rectangle over the circle. Bake for about 5 minutes.
  1. Remove pizza dough from oven and add sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni to create the stripes of the hat.
  2. Return to oven and bake an additional 5 to 8 minutes, depending on the thickness of your dough and desired doneness.
