We have tried a few math curriculums over the years. We all know that each kid learns differently. The majority of my learners here at the Rogers Academy are hands on visual learners who think in pictures. Teaching Textbooks 4.0 is perfect for their learning plus it’s easy to implement for Mom.

Disclosure: I received compensation to write this post as well as a free enrollment for a level for each of my learners. All opinions are 100% my own.
Here in Autismland, we run the gamut of grades from 4th grade all the way to high school. We got a set of twins doing Math 5, a middle schooler doing Math 6, and a Senior doing Pre- Calculus. That’s a lot of math to teach for a homeschool mama. I have to decide what I need to teach and what I need to hire out. High school writing and math are two subjects I feel comfortable letting someone else teach.

Teaching Textbooks 4.0 is an enrollment based math program available for grades 3 to precalculus. You are able to download it on any electronic device. We currently have different levels downloaded onto iPhones, iPads, and a Chromebook. This means that every kid has it downloaded on their device here in Autismland. No more excuses for not getting math done because someone had the only computer with internet access. Everyone has access to what they need on their own device.

No problems with accessing any of it anywhere. You don’t need an internet connection in order to do the lessons either. I can have the kids in the car working on math while one or two go to therapy. When we go off on travel adventures, they can do their lessons wherever and whenever they want. When we get back to wifi, they can hook back up and refresh their gradebooks. Everything to do the actual lessons is accessible offline.
Here in Autismland, we teach to mastery. The rule is you must score an 80 or above on each lesson. A feature I love about Teaching Textbooks 4.0 is the ability to reset a lesson if they need to redo it. You can also pause lessons if you need to take extra time on a concept. Now, Teaching Textbooks is spiral based so that’s why we have the 80 rule and reset lessons. Sometimes, our kids with autism can forget a concept and need refreshing to be successful.

Teaching Textbooks 4.0 teaches the lessons, has the child do 20 problems complete with hints & second chances, then grades their work. I don’t teach anything unless I spot a problem. In all the grades, there are tutors available if you need them. This is especially helpful for the higher grades where you may not know the math. Just because I don’t love math doesn’t mean my math loving learners have to suffer.
We love Teaching Textbooks here in Autismland. It’s thorough, my highly visual kids love it, and this busy mama gets to focus on other things that need doing. Let’s be real here and admit that we can’t do everything. I feel like math is a subject that I can hire out. Teaching Textbooks is affordable, thorough, and well done. I couldn’t give them a better education if I taught it myself.
