Make Some Easy Sweetheart Popcorn For Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is such a fun holiday with little people. You get to talk about love and eat candy. Why not raise the bar a little or a lot and make Sweetheart Popcorn for your little valentines?

Learning about the origins of Valentine’s Day

There are many versions of how Valentine’s Day came about but most agree with the Roman version of the priest who helped a blind girl see and sent her a note which she read after he was martyred.

We love to read the story of St. Valentine by Robert Saluda while chomping on our sweetheart popcorn. The illustrations in this particular book are exquisite. The older kids tell us what they know about ancient Rome and how Christians were martyred. Once everyone shares, we chat about what Valentine’s Day means in modern times.

Let’s Make Sweetheart Popcorn For Valentine’s Day

Popcorn is a great snack for any occasion. Finished a book? Popcorn time. Learning about St. Valentine? Popcorn time. Got out of bed on time? Popcorn time. Still breathing? Popcorn time.

Instructions for sweetheart popcorn

  1. Line two large baking sheets with waxed paper. Spread popcorn over waxed paper.
  2. One at a time, drizzle melted candy coating over the popcorn. Add the candy, pressing into areas where the candy coating is thick to help it stick together.
  3. Allow candy coating to set completely before breaking into pieces. To speed the process, place the popcorn in a refrigerator or freezer just until set.

Fun family traditions do not need to be fancy or extravagant. Dress up some basic popcorn and have some fun. Make some paper hearts and have everyone write what they love about each other. You will be amazed at how one simple afternoon can be your child’s favorite memory. Sweetheart popcorn is the perfect activity for Valentine’s Day.
