Snake Life Cycle Hat

Reptiles are a big hit here. Logan wants to be a herpetologist so it only stands to reason that we studied the snake life cycle. Using his interests means that he’s motivated to learn.

Cutting out and coloring the pictures will help them remember the snake life cycle as well as give them pictures to reference in their head when they try to recall it. Memory recall is an important executive functioning skill. Not to mention the fine motor work. It’s multi tasking at it’s finest.

Neurodivergent children tend to learn in pictures.  Using videos as well as crafts in addition to book learning helps their brains process information easier. We have always explained to Logan that his brain is wired differently than everyone else so he sees and thinks in ways neurotypical people don’t. This isn’t a bad thing. It means that we have to teach the way he learns.

It’s not just autism. My dyslexic kid learns this way as well as my dyscalculic kid.  Neurodivergence comes in many forms. Let’s not try to pound a square peg into a round hole.
