A Highly Visual Learner Learns Best With Online Math

Do you have a highly visual learner? One who thinks in pictures so even abstract concepts have to be taught in a way that translates that way? Online math programs, like Teaching Textbooks, are perfect for those types of learners. Colorful, multi sensory, and fun makes learning complicated math concepts easier for both student and teacher.

Highly visual learners need to be able to see what needs to be learned in their heads. They need a multi sensory approach. They need to see it, feel it, hear it, smell it. This is why online programs, games, videos, and songs all work so well. These things trigger different areas of the child’s brain allowing recall to happen faster. In turn, this makes them more successful.

Teaching Textbooks is what we use for our online math program. It works for my three learning disabled children who are highly visual learners. Autistic, dyscalculic, and dyslexic children have all benefitted from this program for different reasons. Each learning disability presents different challenges but this program is so multi faceted that it works for each.

Autistic learners are highly visual as well as literal. They have to see a problem done in front of them while also hearing the problem solved verbally. It has to be in a highly engaged format to keep their limited attention. Teaching Textbooks does this flawlessly. The animation is colorful, the instructions are clear, and there aren’t a lot of unnecessary problems to complete the lesson.

Dyscalculic learners have trouble with numbers. A great definition of it would be dyslexia with numbers. All of the features mentioned above in autistic learners come into play. The scratchpad feature is phenomenal for this type of learner. She can do her calculations on the scratch pad and see if she flipped any numbers around. The ability to replay/retake the lesson as many times as necessary takes the pressure off of her as well. The fact that it’s fun makes her want to do it.

Dyslexia learners benefit from the the animation keeping their attention like the autistic learners. The main benefit for them is the auditory portion. He doesn’t have to worry about reading the problem which is hard for him. Teaching Textbooks worked so well for this type of learner that he went all the way though pre-calculus in high school.

Here’s a fun hands on activity to reinforce math concepts.

When I counsel other parents in their curriculum choices, I always point them to Teaching Textbooks for online math. It works phenomenally for visual learners plus takes it off your plate as the homeschool teacher. Teaching special needs kids can be exhausting. This program is worth it’s weight in gold.
