I have started to implement this but we still have a ways to go with it. Some of it is financial (needing to buy the stuff) and some of it is finding the stuff that I need to use. I’ll tell you what we have so far. I will also tell you that I have one major regret in regards to ot/pt. That I didn’t do it sooner. Ok, so Disney insurance didn’t cover it so that we would have to pay out of pocket for it. Well, no time for regrets, right? God provided for us with Michael’s new job at Publix and their insurance covers it. God provided us with the Lend4Health to help us with the evaluations so that we could get started. Thank you Jesus for all that You provide because the difference has been phenomenal!
What we have started:
So, we were blessed to receive a large exercise ball. Logan loves to sit on it and bounce while he is watching tv. It’s really great sensory input for him. He is so much more focused on it.
Brushing is going great along with joint compressions. It is especially helpful for before schoolwork. Whoever thought of this should get a special place in heaven.
We are working on trunk strength. A strong upper body helps with motor skills. Today, he laid on his stomach on the floor holding himself up with his arms to color. It is getting easier for him to do this. He was almost finished with the picture before he wanted to lay all the way down. Slow and steady wins the race!
Hidden pictures are another one that we have started. We have a book full of hidden pictures (Thanks, Grammy!) that we are working on. This works on brain processing which will in turn help with writing.
What we need to start:
We are hoping to get a trampoline for the kids for Christmas. (Anyone have one that they want to get rid of????) It goes along with the exercise ball. All about sensory input. This one though will help build his stamina and his trunk strength.
I need to get a large dry erase board so that Logan can write on it while it is on the wall.
Simon says game- Logan failed the reflex part of the test. Completely! As in couldn’t finish any of the tests. Which would explain why when you throw something at him and yell think fast, he doesn’t ever catch it.
Outdoor games – kickball, badminton, etc. This all goes with reflex and motor planning.
Wii Fit- something else that we are considering for Christmas. It is a great way to do many things that we simply can’t do in Florida, like cross country skiing. Also, remember that Logan is allergic to his own sweat so this would be a great way to get him really active without putting him outside to sweat within 5 minutes. Come on, we live in Florida. I sweat sometimes just walking to the car.
So, this task is in progress and I hope to mark it off in a month or two. The Lord will provide as He always does so I guess I will mark it off when He is ready. God is good all the time!
