Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park is a great place for families to explore, break out of their usual routine, and learn together in new ways. One of our favorite activities at Animal Kingdom is Wilderness Explorers. In this blog post we’ll go over what you need to know about the park-wide fun based on the movie UP.

Wilderness Explorers at Animal Kingdom
Wilderness Explorers is an interactive, self-guided quest-style scavenger hunt around Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park. Your family can search for animals, answer questions, complete challenges and earn badges by participating in various activities along the way. It’s completely self paced.
The Animal Kingdom version of Wilderness Explorers is based on the movie UP with everyone’s favorite explorer, Russell. There are over 25 different badges to earn and add to your explorer journal.
The requirements for each Wilderness Explorers badge vary, but many of them can be completed by simply taking a stroll around the park and observing the animals and natural surroundings.

How to Get Started
To get started on your Wilderness Explorers journey, stop by the headquarters which is located just inside the entrance of the park. There you can pick up a Wilderness Explorers handbook. You can also get information about the different badges and start picking up clues for some of them.
Of course, you’ll have to take the oath before you can go on your search for animal facts and badges. The oath is a fun way to get in the Wilderness Explorers spirit.
After picking up a journal, your family will want to start by picking up a few clues for the various badges. There are different stands around the park that have guides who can help you with most of the clues.
Once you have your clues, it’s time to start exploring! Be sure to take your time and enjoy all that Animal Kingdom has to offer while completing the tasks required for the badges.
Wilderness Explorer Locations
The Wilderness Explorer headquarters is located on the bridge between the Oasis and Discovery Island. You can also visit Wilderness Explorer Troop Leader locations in Africa, Rafiki’s Planet Watch, Asia, Dinoland U.S.A. and Pandora – The World of Avatar.
Each of these locations have a fun activity that kids will want to participate in to earn badges. Other locations are waiting to be discovered, but won’t have a guide waiting to teach lessons or explain the station.

Wilderness Explorer Activities
In addition to earning badges, there are lots of other fun things for families to do together as they explore Animal Kingdom.
We recommend stopping at different exhibits throughout the park and have your little explorers look for clues on what types of animals are in the habitat. Use the Wilderness Explorers Adventure Page for these exhibits.
Rafiki’s Planet Watch is a great place to stop and learn about some of the environment-friendly animal habitats located around Disney World. You’ll get a chance to see beautiful animals up close and learn about the work that is being done to help preserve our planet.
We love that Wilderness Explorers encourages families to explore and learn together. The activities are fun and can be completed at your own pace, so there is no need to rush. Be sure to take your time and enjoy all that Disney’s Animal Kingdom has to offer.
With all the animals, plants and educational opportunities, the park is a great place to add some diversity in your learning with Wilderness Explorers!
