Is Teaching Textbooks Behind A Grade Level?

A lot of people think that the numbers correspond to grade levels. This is not the case. They are simply the number of levels. We don’t follow grade levels here in Autismland. I have had children go all the way through pre calculus and be completely fine in college.

Lessons, Problems, and Solutions Are All Read Out Loud

Everything is read out loud for the student. This helps the student focus on the math not the reading. Perfect for struggling or dyslexic students who can do math but need accommodations. My dyslexic learner went all the way through pre-calculus because he loved the math but needed help with the reading. Problem solved.

Real Life Examples Are Given

Maddie wants to know how she is going to use these math concepts while she’s learning them. It’s probably because she’s not one of my math lovers. By giving real life examples during the lessons, she can see why she needs to know it.

Logan only thinks in black and white. It’s how his autistic brain is wired. The real life examples remind him that math has a purpose other than learning it for school. Real life examples are important to help him think outside the box with his information.

It Has A Scratchpad Built In So No Need For Paper

There’s a scratchpad in the program. This means that the child can literally do their math anywhere.

It’s also great for kids with sensory issues who can’t write using a paper and pencil. Logan can not stand the sound and feeling of a pencil on paper. The scratchpad takes that out of the equation.

There Are Built In Factors To Make The Child Successful

Seriously, there are so many factors built in to the program that help your child be successful without minimal help from you. They can get a hint, there is a second chance option, and in the top right corner, it tells you what lesson that concept has been taught before. (Teaching Textbooks is spiral based).

Here in Autismland a grade lower than an 80 means you have to redo the lesson. I just go into the grade book in the parent portal and delete the lesson. This means they have to do it again. You can also go into the parent portal to turn off hints and second chances. I’m not sure why you would do that but it’s an option.

Still having trouble? They have a tutoring hotline you can call to get extra help. If I didn’t have a math genius husband, I would have to call them for any help that my teens would need in high school math. I seriously have no clue.

You Get A Free Trial Of The First 15 Lessons For EVERY LEVEL

Yep, you can do the first 15 lessons in every level for free. This is important if you have several children finishing at the same time and the budget is tight. Seriously, sometimes things like that are important especially if you have a special needs child.
