I’m not sure if you have to be a curriculum junkie in order to be a homeschooler, but I do know that when you start teaching your children at home, you need resources. I have received nearly every home education-geared catalog out there. Oh I’m sure there are some I haven’t had, but I have had most at one time or other.
Recently Lee Binz, aka The HomeScholar, posted a link to an old post of hers about When Friends Stop Homeschooling. I’ve seen it before, but something about it hit me today. Her post is basically a “what to do” about your own family when a friend or friends stop homeschooling.
I read an article today and I felt that I needed to respond to it with a different perspective. I know that as a parent with young children, the thought of them going to kindergarten was just a given. Most of us just don’t think about any other options, because there really AREN’T many options. Skipping kindergarten? Holding them out a year to let them mature a bit first? Both are viable options, but they aren’t the only ones.
There is nothing quite like spending every day with my kids rubbing me the wrong way to reveal my inner self. My ugly self. My totally lacking in patience-for-your-goofy-noisy-messing-around-today self!
