Okay, so we’re really going to do this thing. We started our Considering God’s Creation notebook today. Since we are just beginning CGC, we are starting with the Days of Creation. The boys and I read Genesis 1 today, and they began working on the first notebook page. They completed Days 1-4 today, and we will finish that page off either tomorrow or Friday. I also looked around online to find some timeline figures for Creation. I know I’ve seen some, somewhere. The closest thing I could find was a photographer’s website with some AMAZING photos/digital images he created to illustrate the days of creation. I copied those pictures into Word, resized them small, and printed out the pictures to add to our Century Book. If you’re interested, the photographer is Fred Leavitt.
So what was I posting about? Oh yes, notebooking. 🙂
I am beginning to see that I need to buy some supplies. I have tons and TONS of notebooking printables. Literally, if I printed them ALL out, it would fill boxes I am sure. But what to do with all of these things? Starting CGC is giving me a little boost, encouraging me get started. I realized this morning, as the boys were coloring their days of Creation, that I don’t want to 3-hole punch these pages. What I really want to do is bind the whole notebook together when we are all finished with it (as in the whole CGC program). I printed out the Century Book (from somewhere I can’t recall this minute), created a cover, and took it all in to Staples. They laminated the covers and spiral bound it. I’ll put up a picture sometime soon. It just made me realize how much we like the look of the “finished product”. I am slowly making a shopping list now:
- 2 three-ring view binders (for starters)
- a box of sheet protectors from Costco (I think they come 200 to a box)
- a book binder (either a comb binder or a Pro-Click)
- a laminating machine
I have to admit, I am a former paper scrapbooker who turned digiscrapper. Photoshop is my tool of choice for scrapbooking. I initially thought lapbooks were really neat, but I can’t get past the “ugh” factor when it comes to the file folders. No matter what, they are still ugly file folders. But a notebook can contain everything a lapbook contains, including fold-out pages, mini books, and everything. This is huge for me!
But I’m also inherently lazy and don’t want to take on big projects. Thus, the notebook can be simple and I like that too. As long as we use our notebooking WITH our learning, and to compile it all in one place, then I should be able to stick with it. I really want to do this. Already we’re using our Century Book, and it’s really neat! I can’t wait until the boys have some interesting things in their notebooks, to show off or go back to. That’s what it’s all about, right?
