Serve the Lord Sunday- Teaching the children to help the less fortunate

“There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land”
Deuteronomy 15:11

On this Serve the Lord Sunday, I will share what I am teaching the children about helping the less fortunate. God blesses those who bless others. We are all a steward of these earthly possessions. They all belong to Him. He just lets us be stewards of them so we need to be ready to give them up whenever the Spirit whispers to us.
This can be a tough lesson for little children to learn. I like to remind them that God puts us on this earth to do His Work. Sometimes, he gives us things to achieve his task. Whatever His plan, we are in charge of these possessions or in the parents case, these children. We must be still and quiet to listen for His direction. Sometimes I get it wrong but He always is patient enough with me to repeat it.

Here are the children with all the toys, clothes and bikes that they collected for a needy family in our area. They went through their stuff, cleaned up what was good then donated it to children who have less than them. It is important to Michael and I that they realize that they are very blessed in many ways. We point out many ways that the children can help others as well. I am so humbled by their beautiful hearts and how they want to help everyone. What an important lesson! God is smiling on these children!
