Serve the Lord Sunday – Memorizing Scripture

This year, I am focusing on memorizing Scripture. Beth Moore ( I am such a Beth Moore junkie) challenged everyone to memorize 2 Scriptures per month this year. At the end of 2009, I will have memorized 24 Scriptures. So, when Satan attacks my thought life, I can fill my thoughts with godly things.

I am actually ashamed to admit that I have never memorized a lot of Bible verses. This is embarrassing on several fronts. First, I require the children to attend Awana. In Awana, they have to memorize A LOT of Scripture. Madison memorized over 30 verses last year alone. Logan has memorized at least 20 and JoJo is a Scripture memorizing machine! He has already memorized all the Scripture in the book this year and is moving on to a new workbook. No kid at Awana has ever finished the book and the workbook in one year. He has quite a memory in his cute little caramel head. Leslie is so proud of him!

Besides not setting a good example for the children, I have not prepared myself for spiritual attack. It’s easier to fight off Satan with the Word of God. It’s hard to keep my thought life pure and my eyes on God when there is no Scripture in my brain. I honor God and show my love for Him by meditating on His Word. What a wonderful way to worship the Almighty!!!

My first verse this month is

Proverbs 23:17

Do not let your heart envy sinners, but be zealous for the fear of the Lord
