Who takes care of the homeschool mom? Herself with the help of a self care planner!
Homeschool moms care for the children, the meals, the laundry, the housework, appointments, and are the taxi driver to and from to and from point a to point B.
Mommas take care of everyone around them, and yet the one person most often neglected when it comes to having needs met is herself.
Something as simple as downtime is often missing. Do you have enough time to read a chapter of a book? When was the last time you met a friend for coffee–without kids? Are you long overdue for that eye exam and new glasses?
These necessary margins are often pushed aside for other more pressing things. Let’s face it: our lives are FULL of more pressing things, right? Every day. All day long. Part of taking care of your family is taking care of yourself.
Did you have your physical this year?
What about that?I say this because I actually skipped my yearly mammogram appointment last August and just finally got around to it this past week. Once again Mama came last because everything else comes first. As I was leaving my appointment it occurred to me that I’m probably not the only homeschool mom out there who has been neglecting important self-care items in favor of caring for my family.
We need to be as intentional about caring for ourselves as we are with our children.
The word intentional has become a buzzword in recent years. For a while it seemed that everyone was writing about how to be an intentional parent, an intentional homeschooler, or living intentionally. That word garners so much attention, but when it comes to yourself do you care for yourself intentionally?
Yes, you. Intentionally. As in on purpose.
This isn’t to say you shouldn’t seek medical attention, because that is often one of the first things we Mommas do in caring for others: we neglect our own needed care, including physicals, eye exam, or even going to doctor when sick. You are an integral member of the team so take care of yourself.
Taking care of yourself is not selfish.
Caring for yourself is being responsible for the body God gave you and your position in caring for others because let’s face it: If Momma’s not doing well, the family will soon follow!
I came up with a list of things that we need to do to keep ourselves healthy and sane, along with a couple of worksheets to help you set some goals and put things in perspective.
