Several months back, I launched a group blog for Christian parents with tough teens.
It’s a small niche. Very small. Either Christians aren’t talking about it, homeschoolers aren’t talking about it, or it’s truly a smaller problem than we first thought. I believe the former two. As Christians, God sees us for who we are, where we come from, and what we do. Our hearts, our motives and our actions define us with God.
With one another—well that’s a whole different ballgame.
Actually it’s more like a mud bath. As soon as you admit that your teenager is doing things that “good Christian kids” don’t do, it’s as if you walked into the homeschool group or church sanctuary covered from head to toe in mud. People look apologetically at you, ask what happened, and then walk away as quickly as they can, lest get get anything on them.
I’m sad to say that Prodigal Planet just didn’t make it. The writers and I decided that rather than pour more energy and time into our little niche that hardly anyone sees, we would bring it back to where we live and where we have readers. Not all of it, of course, because some of the gritty stuff just doesn’t fit our nice little homeschooling and lifestyle blogs.
But a lot of it does.
Over the next several months (and beyond) you’ll start seeing some new posts here that I have transferred from the other blog. These posts are targeted specifically for parents with tough kids. Rebels, if you will. Kids who, for one reason or another (and often we don’t KNOW the reason) decided to trek off on their own path, so far from the one they were raised on that we don’t know where they’re going. It’s scary to watch that, and it’s hard to know what to do about it. These posts are also for you, parents of upcoming teens, as a warning and a support that you can learn from.
The Momma Knows isn’t changing, I’m just bringing home some more “real”.
I always try to keep it real here. And if you’re a parent struggling with a kid who is heading in the wrong direction, I’ve set up a Secret Facebook group where you can come and get some real support from other parents who are or have been there. Just fill out the contact form below so that I can add you to the group.
