While it is always amazing to experience things with our children, and travel can be one of the things that really helps them learn and take on new experiences, it is also nice to remember that before children you were a couple who were head over heels in love. It may seem like a distant memory some days while you plough through the daily routines and transport children to therapies. At some point, God may smile and bestow upon you the chance to experience vacation time away without the children. If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
Traveling to Europe
Europe has so many different places that you can enjoy as a couple. Beautiful cities, fabulous beaches, excellent places to enjoy some of the finest cuisines, art museums to meander through at all hours. There is Italy, known for romance thanks to beautiful cities like Rome or Milan, but Alison has some of the best food in the world. Who doesn’t love pizza or pasta? Spain has much to offer thanks to gorgeous cities like Barcelona or Madrid. The United Kingdom with London and the famous sites like Buckingham Palace. If you happen to be a history nerd like me then there are a gazillion places to visit.
Going on a hike or camping
Some couples are just that bit more adventurous. Since our move to Arizona, hiking has become quite the hobby for us as a couple and a family. Camping and hiking can be great as you can really trust each other to push yourself to the limits. Besides, sitting under a blanket of stars with a campfire could be your idea of romance. If you happen to be competitive, try to remember that you are there to have fun not beat the other person to the top.
Taking a trip of a lifetime
Often we have bucket lists, and so why not take the time to explore some of those destinations you have been longing to see when the opportunity presents itself.. Australia, New Zealand, Asia, to name a few, could all be up there on your most wanted list. It could be the ideal time to save up and have an experience just the two of you. This is reason #1,245,7893 to take the time to find someone who is willing to take on the responsibility of your child with autism.
Enjoying a cruise
Cruising isn’t for everyone, but it could be the ideal way for you to enjoy several locations in one vacation. Cruising is one of our favorite things to do since everything is included. The best part is that you can actually take the children along and still get time for each other. These days you can take a cruise in lots of places such as the Mediterranean, the Caribbean or even around the world if you wanted to. There are a plethora of options for cruise lengths too. You could cruise for as few as two days and as long as months.
Being a big kid yourself
Finally, maybe you just want to be a big kid yourself again, and why not? Many adults go to the likes of Disney World themselves, just to have some fun and enjoy the rides and thrills as a couple. It could be a great vacation to enjoy together. Disney has loads of festivals and entertainment geared toward adults only.
It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you do something together. Dream big or small but always take time to dream as a couple. Those are the memories that will keep you going on autism rising days. Taking time to work on your marriage will always pay dividends.
