Ok, so this week has been better than last. No one was sick and we managed to get most of our schoolwork done including 2 cooking lessons. We didn’t get our art and our composer lessons done though. I think that I will move those to Wednesday which happens to be our most hectic day with church and dance.
In Bible, we continue to learn our Awana verses as it wraps up with Awards Night on the 4th. Madison managed to say all 20 review verses and all the books of the New Testament unprompted. She really wants that Review Island Patch. We were very proud of her! Logan finished Chapter 4 in his book and did half of Chapter 5 this week.
Logan is moving along in math. It is becoming progressively harder but he is meeting the challenges well. One time I did have to sit with him and reassure him that he could indeed do it. He seemed to relax quite a bit and the rest of the week went swimmingly. He never ceases to amaze me as there is a TON of writing in Singapore Math. Madison continues to wrap up the calendar and addition and subtraction.
His writing is continuing to improve by leaps and bounds. The less I stress about it, the better he gets. He has really taken to the Charlotte Mason philosophy of teaching. He is writing unprompted more and asking me to spell less. He still asks but now he attempts it before I have time to answer. Of course, part of rdi is slowing down significantly. You purposely go slow in an attempt to give him time to figure it out himself. When I see that he is struggling then I jump in to scaffold it to make it successful. The ultimate goal is for him to do it himself. Works really well with Madison and phonics too. Also works on husbands (hehe).
In Science, we learned about Copernicus and Galileo. Both children made pictures for their astronomy books. In History, we finished nomads. Tomorrow evening, we are going to make cave paintings.
Madison read Puss in Boots this week and Logan is almost finished with Peter Pan. Both of those were read for narration. Madison is trudging along with narration but it comes fairly easily to Logan. For free reading, Logan is finishing up Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Both children are about 10 books or less away from meeting their 100 books read goal this school year.
Next week will be eventful as Madison prepares for recital, both kids prepare for recognition day and Awana Awards. Somewhere in there, we are making 300 cupcakes for recognition day and 3 graduate cakes.
