You get two posts for the price of one today. Really, it’s because I forgot to post yesterday. Sorry.

Anyway, about a year ago we contacted Logan’s DAN doctor because we were concerned. Concerned is probably an understatement at the time. Logan would eat and eat until he threw up. He literally could not tell when he was full. We had him eat slower,.We fed him more protein then more carbs. We fed him smaller meals at more frequent intervals. Nothing. He would constantly be complaining about being hungry but he wasn’t really hungry. He would quite honestly eat until he was sick. The signal from his stomach to his brain didn’t work at all. The doctor asked several questions about his eating habits and looked over his meds and supplements extensively. We were concerned that we had battled yeast for so long that perhaps permanent damage had been done to his digestive system.

Then we made a pivotal discovery. Logan ate more when he had Diet Coke. I was allowing him one Diet Coke every day ( because I am a mean mom and only allow one soda per day per child ). It was Diet Coke because we were fighting yeast and I didn’t want him to ingest all that sugar. I was trading one evil for another here. Artificial sweeteners keep your brain from feeling full. So , you think that are helping your diet when in fact your are sabotaging it. Go figure!

$400 later, we were told to remove artificial sweetener from his diet. One more thing to add to the list is what I first thought. He really will be surviving on air and water pretty soon. This meant full sugar Coke which in turn meant that I had to discontinue buying it so that Logan wouldn’t drink it every day. I was unsure of the actual response but decided that it couldn’t hurt to try. Right?

It turns out to be one of the best things that I ever did for Logan. He still eats a lot ( he is a growing preteen boy after all) but not to the point where he is getting sick. He has slimmed down considerably since he doesn’t eat all that extra food trying to get himself full. With no soda in the house, he drinks more water which flushes out his liver better. Overall, it has improved his health tremendously. That was our diet change for this year. One in which we all benefited from. God is good all the time!

Isn’t it providential you found out when you did! It is so hard to lose the weight when it is already on!

I must be an extra-mean mummy – I allow soft drink on special occasions only!! Tastes better that way 🙂
