Recently, both of our sons have become interested in joining Civil Air Patrol, the Air Force’s volunteer auxiliary cadet program for teens ages 12-18.
We have learned that there are two CAP squadrons local to us! I know several families whose kids are CAP cadets, but I wanted to see how much information is out there on the internet too. This post is a round-up of the sites and blogs that I was able to find.
The main Civil Air Patrol website abounds with information for both cadet and adult programs.
Rebel Homeschool has a brief summary of what CAP is, with a couple of pictures of her son’s squadron.
Devin is a 15-year old CAP cadet who wrote about the program on his mom’s blog, Contented at Home.
Magda Pride, Mary Pride’s daughter, wrote a good article at Homeschool World, about CAP and her experience with it.
Cadet Stuff is a blog for CAP cadets—specifically teens—with lots of practical articles and tips for cadets for training and for life.

For the time being we are still in the investigative stage of researching it. We have been invited to visit a local squadron next Monday so hopefully we will be able to do that. D1 is pretty excited about it, and D2 is begging us to lie about his age so he can join right away. 🙂 (Sorry bud, you’ve got 9 more months!)
