|Such an old picture but I love it!|
This is my favorite time of year! Not for the reason that you may think. Don’t get me wrong here. I love Christmas! I love it even more because it means that it’s break time for the Rogers Academy. We are officially on break from Thanksgiving until the first Monday in January.
What feels like many moons ago, it was decided that adding lessons into an already stressful month was not in Logan’s best interests. We certainly couldn’t do all the fun activities and outings with him in addition to lessons. He simply needed time to decompress when he was home. Not necessarily with electronics and all that. The electronics rule still applies even on break ( tv, laptop and xbox only from 7-9 PM). If we all were going to have an enjoyable holiday season then we would have to not do lessons.
This is an especially busy time of year for our family. JoJo’s birthday starts off the festivities on the 19th , Thanksgiving, a week and a half to two weeks later is my birthday, a week later Logan’s birthday , and two weeks later comes Christmas. That’s a ton of celebrating for sure. We are all in sensory overload at times during this season. The only difference is that if you don’t have autism, people just call you grumpy.
Since we homeschool from January through November with minimal breaks, this is certainly acceptable. We don’t have to keep track of attendance here in Florida. We have more than enough hours even if we did have to turn that in. We have completed our books and all 3 terms of our Ambleside Online game. It is a complete school year. While this idea may not work for your family, it works for us. That, my friend, is the beauty of homeschooling!
