I sat around all day trying to formulate a blog post. I haven’t felt especially well so that did not help either. I certainly had a few ideas but nothing really screamed at me. Until I almost broke my leg. Funny how God works sometimes.
I went into the kitchen to check on the bread rising in the oven. I am staying up late tonight to watch the Nascar race so I decided to try a new gluten free bread recipe. As I walked into the kitchen , I slipped on something on the floor and almost fell. I yelled for Logan to clean it up since it was from his dog ( We have the weirdest dog ever. When he hears thunder, he gets scared and pees on the stool in the kitchen. Yeah, just what I need. A weird dog to go with my weird family. At least he fits in, right?).
Then we had this encounter:
Me: If I break something because of that stupid dog then he’s leaving.
Logan: yes ma’am ( you gotta give him credit for knowing that I would respond better to respectful)
Me: (as Logan walks by): And you have to take care of me the whole time I have a cast on.
Logan: Of course Mom. By taking care of and serving others, you are in essence taking care of and serving God.
Logan: It’s a parable in the Bible , Mom. You know Jesus says you visited me in prison and helped me when I was sick. The disciples say no, I didn’t. Jesus answered, whatever you do for the least of them, you do also for me.
I grossly paraphrased here and I don’t know the exact spot in the Bible but I knew exactly what he was talking about. What was amazing in all this is that he knew the parable and the meaning behind it. Without us ever having discussed it.
I often covet Logan’s faith. He is so on fire for God. He reads his Bible regularly and has read it from beginning to end more times than I can count. He likes to read the Bible commentaries for fun! He has a grasp and understanding of the God’s Word that sometimes eludes me. He often talks like someone who has studied the Bible for decades.
My favorite part of Logan’s faith is the simplicity of it. It’s black and white. There is no gray area for him. God said it so that’s it. Period. End of discussion. There’s no is that applicable to us today or what do you think it applies to this situation. Nope, God said it so that’s the way it is and that’s what you should do. I love his simplicity.
God has used Logan to teach me so much. I am learning a ton of new stuff about Him and myself through my talks with Logan. WOW! I totally never saw this coming. God is good all the time!
