Most of you know that I love e-books.
I love the ease of finding them, downloading them rather than having them take up shelf space (although don’t get me wrong, I LOVE BOOKS and own many) I can print them out very economically with my laser printer. I also enjoy finding books online which are no longer available in stores and libraries.
I inherited a lawyer’s bookcase full of books from my Gramma.
Most of the books belonged to her aunt, who was a school teacher. My Gramma and her sister and brother had many of the books growing up, also. This year, I want to share with you one of the little books I inherited along with the bookcase. It’s a short, sweet Christmas story, perfect for reading aloud.
Since it is a public domain book now (copyright is expired), I went searching online so that I can share it with you.

This book belonged to my Great-Uncle Kenny, who was about 13 years older than my Gramma. By the handwriting, I would guess that he was 4 or 5 when he got it. He passed away at the age of 98, in 2005.
The Birds’ Christmas Carol
by Kate Douglas Wiggin is a short, sweet story about a girl named Carol.
She has serious health problems and mostly watches the world go by from her bedroom window.
Carol has a generous heart and decides that she wants to bless a very large, needy family next door to her. She throws them a wonderful Christmas party and blesses them and everyone around her with her generosity.
I first read this book to my kids about 10 years ago and fell in love with it.
Carol is absolutely sweet and caring, and the message of this book is timeless. Published in 1886, the story is told from a simpler time, before commercialism hijacked this season of giving. And just a word of warning: You will cry. Pre-read before reading aloud to your littlest ones.
