This was a much smoother week than last week. We managed to get back on schedule although it took us a couple of days. We got most of school done although we are still working on it today. Whatever we don’t finish this evening will be moved over to next week. We always take Sundays off from school and housework. Everyone deserves a day of rest. If it’s good enough for God then it is good enough for us! 🙂
Logan finished reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. He has begun reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. For narration , we are going to work on our listening skills. next week, I will begin reading Prince Caspian from the Chronicles of Narnia series out loud. He can read to himself and narrate orally fairly well. I need to determine how competent he is when he is read to and when he reads it out loud. Since we want to go see the movie, it only makes sense to start with Prince Caspian.
Madison is wrapping up her official work from Florida Virtual Academy. We only have a few lessons for next week then it’s only phonics. Next week, we will begin the Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons for phonics. I love that it is really short 15 minute lessons. I hope to build her confidence in reading this summer. Other than the short lesson, we will simply continue reading a ton. As Logan so eloquently said at the library last week , we “are reading machines”.
Writing is coming along for both of them. Madison has figured out that she can sound out words and spell them. Logan’s confidence is growing by leaps and bounds in writing. He writes his daily Bible verse without problem now. He also tries to write whatever he wants first then he asks for help. That is huge!
Next week, look forward to seeing our Salvador Dali grasshopper puppets, our sun for science and cave paintings. With a little less on our schedule, maybe we can get it all done!
