Why Traveling Should Be All About Nature

A lot of people think travel is about lifestyle. But if you ask the most seasoned travelers why they constantly feel the urge to do it, it turns out to be mostly about nature.

We can make a pretty good case for going to a campsite or RV park and making your next vacation about all about connecting with nature. Check out these reasons and tell us what we’re forgetting in the comments.

Reasons Why Traveling Should Be About Nature

Improved Mental Health

Being stuck in a boxy apartment in the city for months on end commuting to and from work isn’t much fun. In fact, it is actually quite bad for mental health in general, which is why city dwellers need more mental health services.

By contrast, being in nature changes how you feel. When you’re in natural environments, it can reduce your stress levels and leave you feeling substantially less anxious than you did before.

Improved Physical Fitness

At the same time, being outside more and spending less time in the house improves your physical fitness. Simply walking in nature can have a dramatic boost for your overall health and even improve immunity, which is why so many people now pay for so-called “forest bathing” holidays.

Just walking around more can also make a substantial difference. Being mobile, getting around, and generally enjoying yourself often leads to physical changes long-term.

Unique Experiences

Getting out into nature is also an opportunity to have some unique experiences. Natural landscapes connect with your mind and give you opportunities to feel blissful and happy in ways you couldn’t otherwise.

These experiences are different from the urban setting. In cities, you have to pay for almost everything, but when you’re in nature, everything is free.

Connection To Earth

You might also go a step deeper and say that traveling in nature provides you with a connection to the Earth and all its diversity. When you’re in the city, it’s easy to ignore it and what it offers. But when you’re outside of that, it can fundamentally change how you feel. For example, you might get a sense of stewardship or responsibility that you wouldn’t get otherwise.

Cultural Insights

When you’re in nature, another benefit is the cultural insights you can get. Being out in the wilds and seeing the indigenous cultures can help you appreciate a simpler and slower pace of life than applies in the city. You can observe the natural tempo of human life and what it really meant over thousands of years.

Escape From Routine

Finally, getting into nature is perhaps one of the best ways to escape from your routine. In urban settings, the clock and timetables dominate everything. People and machines have to move in synchrony for things to get done.

That’s not at all the case in nature. Instead, you can go back to your ancestral bio-rhythm and experience the wilds for what they are. You can also change how you approach the day by rising with the sun and then going to bed soon after it goes down, without even glancing at your watch if you don’t want to.
